Description:

This Merwin Hulbert & Co. Pocket Army single action revolver features a blade front sight and "V" notch rear sight at the end of the top strap, nickel finish, and is fitted with smooth pearl grips and bird's head butt with lanyard hole. The left side of the frame under the cylinder is marked "CALIBRE/WINCHESTER" followed "1873", (the designation for caliber 44-40), and the right side of the frame is marked "MERWIN HULBERT & CO. N.Y./POCKET ARMY". The left side of the barrel has the two-line Hopkins & Allen address/patent date marking. The revolver features fine floral vine/leaf and punch dot engraving. In addition the left side of the frame has a reposed deer scene in a round panel scene. The matching serial number is stamped on the left side of the frame under the grip, on the rear face of the cylinder, on the cylinder pin and on the back of the barrel lug. The toe of the butt is marked "5706".

Rating Definition:

About good. The revolver retains traces of the original nickel with a dark brown patina in the exposed surfaces with pitting and oxidation. The left side of the frame has more nickel retained than the right. The left grip panel is very good with some minor scratches and marks. The right side panel is incomplete with the rounded upper section absent and only faint handling/storage marks otherwise. The action is operable but needs attention as it does not always lock up properly. Still, a wonderful addition to one's Old West Collection as this revolver has loads of character!
