Description:

Serial number 1411 places this revolver in the correct 1-2072 range for the New Model 3 Frontier of which 786 were converted to .44 S&W Russian and shipped to Japan. This example has a 6 1/2 inch barrel and a replaced 1 9/16 inch long cylinder. The revolver has a blue finish and short ejector housing with checkered walnut grips without the S&W monogram. The pistol has a pinned half-moon blade front sight. The rear sight is a small notch mounted on the barrel latch. The barrel rib is marked with the two line address and patent information. The matching serial number is located on the butt, the barrel, and the barrel catch while the cylinder is numbered "1127" (not uncommon for Japanese Contract guns).

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 40% of the original blue finish with nearly all of the case colors visible on the hammer and a brown patina and pitting on the exposed surfaces. The grips are replacements and are fine showing an old revarnish with a chip missing on the leading edge of the left panel and some wear. The checkering remains sharp. The action is excellent and all markings are clear.
