This Greener Double Rifle is configured and proofed for the 450/400 Nitro Express cartridge. Developed by bottlenecking the straight-walled 450 Express cartridge, the 450/400 started life as a black powder round suitable for deer and similar European hunting, but with the introduction of Cordite it became a viable dangerous game round. Ramp mounted brass bead front sight with flip-up high-visibility bead and a three leaf express rear sight with fixed "100" leaf, folding "200" and "300" leaves and platinum wire accents, with the rib marked "W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 68 HAYMARKET. LONDON" on the rib, "AMM 450/400 CASE 3 1/4" on the left barrel, "CORDITE 60 GRS BULLET 400" on the right, and an assortment of proof marks on the underside, with elephant trade marks, Birmingham proofs, "WROUGHT/STEEL" and "400 EX". The frame shows over 95% coverage of fine scroll engraving, with floral designs on the screws, casehardened triggers, "W.W. GREENER" on each side, and a Greener safety switch on the left stock flat. Fitted with a checkered fancy walnut splinter forearm and pistol grip stock, with fine engraving on the forearm hardware and casehardened grip cap, sling studs on the barrel and buttstock, and an unmarked solid recoil pad. Measurements: weight - barrel 7 pounds 3.8 ounces, forearm 7.7 ounces, frame and stock 4 pounds 6.4 ounces, drop at comb - 1 3/4 inches, drop at heel - 2 3/4 inches, length of pull - 15 1/2 inches to end of pad, 14 5/8 inches to end of wood.

Very fine as refurbished, with 95% of the blue finish, showing some minor handling marks overall, the start of a plum patina on the trigger guard and streaks of gray on the lower tang. The frame is starting to fade along the edges, though a large quantity of very bright and vivid case color is present on the sides and top, along the recoil shields and under the barrel lever. The stock is also very fine with a few small pressure dents, fine grain and sharp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
