Description:

This is a very desirable late production J.P. Sauer and Sohns 38H semi-automatic pistol that has the very rare "SA" Group markings on the slide. The rarity of this pistol is based on the fact that you rarely see any 38H pistols with the "SA Gruppen" markings as those requirements were 99% of the time filled by the Walther factory. So, any Sauer marked pistol was probably due to a wartime shortage where Walther could not supply the necessary pistols in time and NSDAP contract for a shipment of replacement pistol from the Sauer factory. Even more rare is the fact that it is accompanied by an original SA embossed, Sauer marked, brown leather holster. The holster is correctly marked with the "D.R.G.M./Crossed Rifles/Akah" markings for the Albrecht Kind factory who was a major supplier of these holster during the war. It has the late war milled finish with the dull blue that is only marked with "Cal. 7.65" on the left side of the slide followed by the two line markings of: "Eigentum NSDAP/SA Gruppen Alpenland". It has the standard blade front and fixed rear sight with an "Eagle/N" commercial proof on the barrel, right rear side of the slide and frame. It has the standard, black plastic, impressed, checkered grips with the Sauer monogram on the left panel. It comes with an original, dark brown, leather holster that has a spare magazine that is marked on the base plate with the intertwined "SS" logo and "Cal 7.65". The holster as noted has the ink stamp on the inside of the flap that reads: "SAUER 7.65" with the large heavily embossed "SA" logo on the front flap along with the noted "D.R.G.M./Crossed rifles" makers mark of the Albrecht Kind factory. This same type of pistol and holster rig are pictured on page 349 of the book Sauer 38H Pistols by Jim Cate.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% of the original thinning blue finish overall. The blue wear/thinning is even and honest with no touch up and is only showing original field use. The markings are clear and sharp with two small areas of fine corrosion on the left side of the slide directly over the rear of the markings. The grips are also in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering and markings overall with only minor handling marks. The holster is in fine condition with a nice clear, deep SA emblem on the flap, tight stitching and a partial makers mark due to being pressed by the stud closure. The Sauer markings on the inside flap have been partially inked over along time ago with one of the old ink fountain pens, however the original WWII blue ink markings are still partially visible noting its originality. A very nice example of an exceptionally rare Sauer 38H SA marked pistol rig.
