Rare Documented A.F. Stoeger Inc. New York Marked Pre-War Walther Model PP Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a beautiful example of a A.F. Stoeger marked Walther Mod. PP semi-automatic pistol. This pistol is pictured, identified by serial number and briefly described on page 43, VOL. I of WALTHER MODELS PP and PPK 1929-1945 by James L. Rankin and the German version of his book. This pistol has several features that are distinctive to Mod. PP pistols manufactured for A.F. Stoeger. The left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped "MADE IN GERMANY". The legend "A.F. STOEGER INC. NEW YORK" is engraved in one line on the slide above the Walther markings. The front and rear grip straps have finely engraved checkering, and the barrel chamber has a jeweled polished finish. The pistol has the standard Walther high-polish blue finish with niter blue trigger and safety lever. The magazine is blue with a flat base and is marked with the Walther banner on the lower left side. The serial number is marked vertically on the right side of the frame. The right side of the barrel chamber and muzzle are stamped with the pre-war commercial "Crown/N" proofmark. A third "Crown/N" proof is stamped on the slide below the ejection port. The left side of the slide is marked with the Walther Banner followed by the factory legend, caliber and the model designation. Fitted with black checkered plastic grips with the Walther banner at the top. This pistol has been checked to insure the hand scribed number found inside the slide matches its serial number.

ConditionVery fine. The pistol retains 80% of the original blue finish with some minor edge wear on the slide at the muzzle, safety lever and trigger guard show some minor handling wear. The grip straps have been custom checkered on both front and back which has been cut through the blue. The grips are excellent with a few minor handling marks and very crisp checkering. The magazine is also excellent with 95% original blue finish showing some minor normal usage wear. All markings are sharp. Mechanically excellent. A rarely seen Walther Model PP variation with desirable retailer marking.
