Bound in a black leatherette material, the cover of the book is marked "H.Dv.240/Schiessvorschrift/fur/Gewehr,(Karabiner)/leichtes Maschinengewehr, Pistole/usm./(Schv.f.Gew.)", with a 1934 date and a printer's mark for E.G. Mittler & Son of Berlin. Included within is a variety of instructions and guidance for shooting, both in a general sense and for rifles, pistols, carbines and light machine guns. A number of hand-written notes are present, as well as a few struck-out sections and pasted-in updates, which are dated roughly 1939 through 1942. Some loose papers are tucked in, including an excerpted page from a Spanish-language guide to identifying German military hardware (includes illustrations of German marching formations, weapons, and uniform items), a 1943-dated pamphlet on shooting training for the Reserve Army, with illustrations of improvised fighting positions, and a blown-up image of a Waffen-SS sniper in smock.
