World War I U.S. LF&C Model 1918 Trench Knife with Seattle Tent & Awning Co. Inscription

Measuring 11 1/2 inches overall, with a 6 5/8 inch double edged blue steel blade, secured into the cast brass hilt with a spiked hexagonal nut. The grip has a striking point on each knuckle bow, with "U.S.1918/L.F&C-1918" cast into the right side and "COMPLIMENTS OF/SEATTLE TENT & AWNING/CO." engraved on the left, with a stamped steel "L.F.&C./1918" sheath. Established in 1897, Seattle Tent & Awning (later Seattle Tent & Fabric) was one of the outfitters for prospectors looking to make a strike during the late 19th century/early 20th century gold rushes in Alaska and the Yukon. The circumstances behind the presentation of the knife are unknown, though it may have been a gift to a valued employee or high-volume client.

ConditionVery fine, with 98% of the bright original blue finish on the blade, showing very light handling marks and a tiny amount of spotting. The grip shows a well aged patina, with the interior of the engraving similarly darkened, with some bright edges and mild verdigris. The possible replacement (though correct date/manufacturer) sheath is refinished, with pitting beneath the dull blue and some bending of the belt hooks.
