Description:

This is an excellent example of an extremely rare pistol as manufactured by Colt Firearms for the Gil Hebard Company. Gil Hebard was a well know pistol shooter in Illinois who successfully ran a firearms company that specialized in Colt and S&W pistols. These "kit" pistols were introduced in 1964 and produced through 1970 in two calibers .38 Special and .45 ACP. The concept of the "Kit" gun was for Colt to be able to produce a Target Grade pistol with all the parts and components fully finished but "unassembled" and without sights, thus saving the costs of final assembly and test, which could be passed on through the actual cost of the pistol to the customer. Approximately 450 total of the ".38 Special Kit" guns were produced. The barrel is marked on top "COLT .38 SPEC. KIT". The left side of the slide is marked "COLT .38 SPEC KIT" next to the Rampant Colt, and the right side of the slide is marked with "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A.". The frame is marked with the correct "H" suffix serial number. It appears on page 108 of Charles W. Clawson's book "Colt .45 Government Models (Commercial Series) Second Edition" . The pistol is in the original sightless, factory configuration. The includes box numbered to the gun, and papers.

Rating Definition:

Near new in original box with minimal handling marks. The box is good with some wear on edges and corners. Mechanically excellent.
