Unique Argentine Colt Model 1927 "I.P." Marked Semi-Automatic Pistol

Manufactured in Argentina, and imported by Century Arms, the only other distinguishing markings are the serial number, and the strange "I.P." prefix. As detailed on page 192 of Clawson's "Colt .45 Government Models (Commercial Series) Second Edition" this particular version of the Colt Government Model was manufactured by DGFM and the Fabrica Militar de Armas Portatiles factory in Rosario, Argentina, but all of the original markings were expertly removed and restamped with the serial number and I.P. initials. Argentine historians have been unable to identify the markings, making this a very rare and mysterious gun. The removal of original markings may indicate a possible clandestine role for these particular pistols, and the small quantity produced suggests limited distribution. All Government Models of this type exhibit the same marking pattern, and the highest serial number examined professionally at the time of publication, is recorded as 401. Very few of this particular type have been imported into the United States. All parts and physical features are standard for the Government Model Colt, with checkered grips.

ConditionFair as refinished, with scattered areas of thin blue finish. Majority has aged to a smooth relatively uniform gray patina, with a small area of surface pitting on the right side of the slide. Black plastic grips are fine, with some areas of smoothing, and some small chips. Mechanically excellent.
