Description:

The Roper Repeating Rifle Co. manufactured these shotguns from the mid-1860s to the mid-1870s. The used special 2 1/2 inch steel cartridges. Five of the cartridge cases are included with and are in a special wood and leather holder. The four shot carrier consists of a series of fins is enclosed within a large round housing with a hinged loading gate on the top marked with the three line address and single 1866 patent date information. It has a smooth forearm with pewter forend and breech caps and a straight grip stock with steel shotgun buttplate. The muzzle gauges as approximately modified. The length of pull is 14 1/4 inches.

Rating Definition:

Good. The shotgun has a mottled dark brown and gray patina overall with areas of moderate pitting and oxidation along with a few traces of the blue finish. The wood is very good with some small pressure marks, slight chips, and minor scratches. The markings are clear, and the action appears fine. The shell holder and cases are poor to fair with loose and torn leather and oxidation on the cases.
