Manufactured in 1890. The barrel and receiver are stamped with British "Crown/V" and "Crown/CP" London proofmarks. The rifle has a 26-inch round, No. 1 barrel chambered for the 22 WCF cartridge. The barrel is fitted with a gold Beach folding combination front sight and a Winchester "Express" rear sight with three folding leaves and platinum sight lines. The barrel has the Winchester commercial blue finish and the "thick-Side" receiver, breechblock, hammer and lever are color casehardened. The stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut. The stock has a blued steel shotgun buttplate, and the forearm has an ebony inlay at the tip. The barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-" in two lines ahead of the rear sight. "22 W.C.F." is stamped on the top of the barrel immediately in front of the receiver. The left side of the barrel is stamped with three British proofmarks just above the edge of the forearm. A fourth proofmark is stamped on the left side of the receiver. The lower tang is stamped: "PAT. OCT. 7TH 79" behind the trigger. The serial number, "50695", is stamped in script numerals ahead of the rear tang screw.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The rifle is all original and retains more than 95% of the blue and vivid color casehardened finish. The barrel has nearly all of the blue finish with some very light edge wear at the muzzle. The buttplate has a bout 75% of the blue finish with traces of light pitting at the toe. The receiver, breechblock and hammer have vivid case colors while the case colors on the lever show some handling wear and are darker and more muted. The stock is in very fine condition and has about 85% of the original finish with some noticeable finish loss on the left side of the stock wrist. The excellent forearm has several insignificant handling marks. Express sights are very rare on a Model 1885 rifle chambered for the .22 WCF cartridge.
