Description:

This rifle is marked "J. Crummey" on the top of the barrel behind the notch rear sight and also has a blade front sight, dot decorated muzzle, unmarked reconverted lock, double set triggers, patch box with light border design on the door, and a full length maple stock with some carved line accents. J. Crummey is listed in was active in Rockingham County circa 1805 to 1832. This example of his work is fairly plain and was likely used for hunting.

Rating Definition:

Fair as reconverted to flintlock configuration. The barrel has a dark brown patina with patches of pitting and oxidation. The lock has mostly brown and gray patina along with some blue finish on the cock and is pitted. The brass has an aged patina. The stock is good with a hand rubbed appearance, a few cracks, and scattered light scratches and dings. The lock and set triggers function very well.
