Barrel: 44 1/2 inch part octagon
Finish: brown

Description:

The part octagon/part round barrel appears to be signed "John * Al Hand" and is equipped with rifle style blade and notch sights. It has a full length maple stock with brass furniture including the engraved patch box, four silver inlays, and raised relief carving. The patch box design, especially the finial, is similar to identified rifles from late 18th and early 19th century Pennsylvania. It includes a hickory ramrod.

Rating Definition:

Fair as reconverted to Flintlock. The barrel has a dark brown patina. The lock has a gray and brown patina. There is some minor pitting throughout. The brass displays an aged patina. The stock is fine with repairs, scratches, chips and minor cracks. The lock functions very well, and the carving and engraving designs are mostly crisp.
