Description:

The top of the barrel behind the rear sight appears to be marked "P Trohil" and a "L[?]" stamp is on the left flat. The lock is unmarked on the exterior and has an "NB" stamp on the underside. It is equipped with the classic style blade and notch sights almost always seen on American long rifles. The rifling is the early style most often seen on rifles from the 18th century. The full length stock has brass furniture including an attractively shaped and engraved patch box, engraved side plate, star inlay on the cheekpiece, and rings for a vent pick below the cheekpiece. It also has a silver thumb plate, carved line accents, and carved designs on the butt.

Rating Definition:

Fair as assembled/reconverted to flintlock configuration as partially restored (stock). The barrel and lock have a brown patina and some light pitting and oxidation. The brass components appear to be cleaned and partially re-engraved. The lock shows signs of alteration or reconversion. The wood is good as restored with some minor cracks and repairs, crisp recut incised carving, and attractive figure and tones. The lock functions fine.
