Description:

Manufactured in 1882. The sides of the barrel, cylinder flats and frame feature floral scroll engraving with a punch dot background. In addition there is a wavy zigzag line and dot design ahead of the barrel engraving, on the top strap, around the rear of the cylinder and on the trigger guard bow. There is a shell design on the top of the back strap and a simple line and dot design on the back strap and butt. There is a dot and diamond shaped design and star bursts on each side of the frame ahead of the cylinder. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line address, the left side of the frame has the three-line/three-date patent markings and the upper left front of the trigger guard is marked "45 CAL". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "911". A small "P" is stamped on the rear cylinder face and a small "S" in the hammer well. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, all nickel finish and fitted with a one piece grip with a relief carved steer head on the right side. The accompanying copy of a factory letter verifies the caliber, nickel finish, factory engraving with the "not listed" barrel length (in this serial number range, that would be 7 1/2 inch) and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 5 to Simmons Hardware Co. in St Louis, Mo. On September 11, 1882.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period replated, barrel shortened (see above) with most of the nickel finish remaining. There is some minor pitting visible under the finish on the cylinder and left side of the frame. A small part of the barrel address is not visible, otherwise the markings and engraving are crisp and clear. The grip is very good with a slight bit of shrinkage, some minor age cracks on the bottom, a few minor dings, and an attractive color and grain. The action is tight. A very attractive early factory engraved Colt Single Action revolver.
