This is an excellent original example of a Colt Single Action revolver manufactured in 1908. This revolver is accompanied by a Colt factory letter that describes the features as: "Caliber: 44/40, Barrel length: 4 3/4 inches, Finish: Blue", and "Type of stocks: Not listed". The letter states this revolver was shipped to the Simmons Hardware Co., in St. Louis, Missouri, on October 15, 1908. The revolver barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap have the Colt commercial blue finish. The frame, hammer and loading gate are color casehardened. The frame screws, stock screws and trigger have a fire blue finish. The black, hard rubber, two-piece grips are checkered and have the Rampant Colt motif in an oval at the top. The left side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the model designation: "COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER". The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the address: "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. Co./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." in two lines. "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the frame. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped with the Colt three-date/two-Line patent markings followed by the encircled Rampant Colt trademark. The assembly number "1455" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the 'Triangle/VP' Colt proof mark on the front bow and the "6" assembler's mark on the rear bow. The serial number, "295218" is stamped on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The cylinder is not serial numbered. All of the visible serial numbers match.

Excellent. The revolver is all original and retains nearly 98% of the factory bright high polish blue and vivid casehardened finish. Wear is limited to some very minor finish loss on the muzzle and forward edge of the ejector housing. The cylinder has light turn lines and some edge wear on the flutes and face. The frame, loading gate and hammer have vivid case colors. The trigger and frame screws retain 98% of the fire blue finish. All of the markings are sharp. The grips are in excellent condition and show virtually little or no handling wear. The action functions perfectly. This is an excellent example of a pre-WWI Colt Frontier Six Shooter Single Action revolver.
