According to the included Colt factory letter this pistol was part of a shipment to the Norvell Shapleigh Hardware Company of St. Louis, Missouri, on 1 August 1912. In this letter, the grips are "Not Listed", and the note "Factory Engraved: Yes" is present. In addition to the standard Model 1903 features, nearly half of the pistol is decorated with fine scroll and geometric engraving, with a sunburst on the trigger guard and a round frame for the Rampant Colt on the slide. The scrollwork is nearly devoid of shading or punch-dot work save for a few strikes on the left side around the grips, in a deviation of what is normally seen from Colt engraving; notes from the consignor attribute this work to Cuno Helfricht. Grips are smooth mother of pearl, with the recessed Rampant Colt medallions and a proper set of red "shoe" spacer panels on the backs.

Very good with 20% of the original blue finish showing scattered spotting, a few patches of shallow pitting on the frame, and areas of brown and gray patina. The grips are fine with a few small chips, 85% plus silver on the medallions and attractive color to the pearl. Mechanically excellent.
