Unique Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless Semi-Automatic Pistol with Scarce Factory Documented Tin Shipping Box and Letter

According to the included factory letter, this pistol was part of a 20-piece shipment to the Seattle Hardware Company (Washington) on 6 May 1915, and is noted "Special Features: Furnished with a tin shipping box". Only in use for one year, the factory ledgers indicate that 3,582 Model 1903s were shipped in the tin box, and all but 810 were sent overseas to Belgium and England. Fixed sights, with the two-block address and patent dates on the left side of the slide along with the Rampant Colt, caliber markings on the right, and "VP/R" on the trigger guard. Fitted with a pair of "COLT" banner grips and a two-tone magazine. The two-piece tin box is painted in a deep maroon, and the extended end label wraps around the underside to provide a space for the traditional handwritten number (present). The Colt trademark labels are on the inside along with a vintage 3-in-One Oil "Oilright" instruction sheet.

ConditionVery fine as partially refinished (cold blue touch up on forward slide and frame) and the balance retaining 80% of the original blue finish showing areas of gray and brown patina, bright edge wear and scattered handling marks and spotting. A small dent is present in the safety notch of the slide. The grips are fine with minor wear and a few small dings. The tin box has 70% of the maroon finish with a few minor tears on the papers and light scuffing overall. Mechanically excellent.
