Description:

This is a WWII era fully automatic Model 50 SMG as manufactured by the Harrington & Richardson company. In the early days of WWII some USMC units were issued these as a substitute SMG due to the lack of availability of the 1928 Thompson SMGs. These were produced in two configurations; one with a fixed wooden stock and the other with a folding wire stock for paratrooper and vehicle use. These were eventually replaced by the easier to manufacture M3 and M3A1 SMGs in late WWII. They are a blow-back operated weapon and they are cocked by retracting the cocking handle located in the cut out, on the underside of the forend. The top of the receiver is marked "MODEL 50 H&R REISING --- CAL 45/HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO./WORCHESTER MASS.U.S.A. PAT PENDING". Directly below the rear sight is marked "SAFE/SA/FA", for safe, semi-automatic and full automatic. They feature a short, finned barrel similar to the Thompson SMG, with an integral compensator/muzzle break on the end, with a fixed front sight with a stamped sheet metal adjustable rear sight. They have a pistol grip walnut stock which are fitted with a flat sheet metal butt plate. Additionally the previous owner also installed a pair of side mounted sling swivel studs on the left side of the stock. This example is complete with five original H&R-REISING marked, 20 round magazines and a late Vietnam era web sling. The SMG and accessories are all stored in a contemporary made pine storage/shipping box similar to the one used by the various State and local Police as well as the FBI for storing the weapon and accessories in the trunk of their cars. There is a small label affixed to the end of the box that lists the make, model and serial number of this SMG, "8/85" and the notation "Merced County Sheriff's".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of its original blued finish overall with some spots of surface rust and minor edge and high spot wear. The stock is in very fine condition with 90% of its original oil finished showing minor dings and light pressure dents on both sides from field use. The accessories and storage case are all in very fine condition. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), Fully Automatic Weapon that is currently registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATF&E) that has been classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
