Description:

Manufactured in 1943. The pistol has the pre-war high polish Colt blue finish and checkered walnut grips with inlaid silver medallions. The pistol is complete with a brown leather ammunition pouch that contains a box of Western .380 cartridges, two spare magazines, an original instruction sheet dated "9-44" and a reproduction cardboard carton. The pistol is marked: "U.S. PROPERTY" on the right side of the frame above the trigger and is stamped with a small Ordnance Escutcheon final inspection mark on the left side of the slide behind the safety lever. The slide has the late production, square top, rear sight and front sight with serrated face. The left side of the slide has the two-line Hartford address and 1897 and 1903 patent dates with the Rampant Colt trademark behind the slide serrations. The right side of the slide is marked: "COLT AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE .380 HAMMERLESS" in two lines below the ejection port. The assembler's number "64" is stamped on the right side of the trigger guard bow. The left side of the frame has the serial number located above the trigger, and the Colt "V/P/ triangle" proofs stamped on the left side of the trigger guard bow. All three magazines are fully blued and are marked: "CAL.380/COLT" in two lines on the bottom of the floor plate. The ammunition pouch is brown leather with two brass snaps on the flap and a single belt loop on the back. The pistol is in the serial range of .380 General Officer pistols but is not identified as being issued to a general officer in the list in THE COLT POCKET HAMMERLESS AUTOMATIC PISTOLS by John W. Brunner.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The pistol retains 99% of the original high polish blue finish. The finish has some minor holster wear and very light pitting on the right side of the slide at the muzzle, some minor scratches on the top of the slide and some very slight traces of surface rust on the back strap and grip safety. The finish wear is very minor and barely noticeable. The walnut grips are near mint and show very minor handling. Markings are crisp. The magazines are in excellent condition with nearly all of the original blue finish. The instruction sheet is fine with some creases and oil stains. The ammunition pouch has smooth leather. One snap is broken, and the bottom of the belt loop is un-stitched. The ammunition box appears to have all of the cartridges and is in very good condition. This is an excellent example of a U.S. Property M1908 .380 Hammerless semi-automatic pistol.
