Manufactured in 1880, this is a Second Model with the dust cover guide rail attached to the receiver with two screws. Blade front sight and adjustable folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,100 yards and marked "1876", (over stamped by the "11" marking). The top of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two-line address/King's Improvement patent dates and "CAL 45-60" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1876", the serial number is on the lower tang and the cartridge elevator is marked "45-60". Special order 1/2 magazine tube and mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip stock with a special order smooth shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the rifle configuration, caliber, 26 inch round barrel, plain trigger, 1/2 magazine, shotgun butt, that it was received in the warehouse on October 23, 1880 and shipped to order number 22597 on October 25, 1880.

Very fine. The rifle retains 85% plus bright original blue finish with some muzzle and high edge wear, some flaking on the receiver and overall a few minor scratches. The lever has a smooth dark mottled patina and the hammer retains 60% of the original vivid case colors. The wood is also very fine with a few scattered minor gouges, dents and scratches. The markings are sharp. The action is excellent.
