Winchester Model 1866 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

This Winchester Model 1866 carbine has the serial number stamped in block numerals behind the trigger. The special order rifle style stock has the matching partial serial number "8177" stamped in the upper tang inlet and a nickel plated rifle buttplate with trapdoor compartment. "2277494" (significance unknown) is non-factory stamped on the left side of the nickel plated receiver. The barrel is marked with the two-line address and King's improvement patent marking (faint). It has a "pinched" blade front sight on the front barrel band and folding leaf rear sight. The forearm is the carbine style with a single barrel band. A saddle ring and staple are on the left side of the receiver.

ConditionVery good as period nickel plated possibly by a retailer. The barrel and magazine tube's have mostly faded to a brown patina with patches of oxidation and light pitting. The barrel bands have primarily a matching dark brown patina and traces of nickel plating. The crisp receiver and buttplate retain 75% of the nickel with an unpolished aged patina overall. The lever, trigger and hammer have a dark patina. The wood is good with some small hairline cracks, a few minor chips, overall mild scrapes and dings and a notch in the comb. The action functions fine.
