Description:

This rifle was manufactured in 1904. Theodore Roosevelt had a high regard for the .405 Model 1895 writing. The Winchester 405 is, at least for me personally, the "medicine gun for lions". In his book "African Game Trails", Roosevelt also wrote, "The Winchester stocked and sighted to suit myself is by all odds the best weapon I ever had and now use it almost exclusively." He and his son, Kermit, took three Model 1895s with them on their African safari: two in .405 and one in .30 U.S. This example has a dovetailed blade front sight and adjustable flat top sporting rear sight. It has the standard Winchester markings and is correctly not marked with the "WP" proofs.

Rating Definition:

Very good. 25% of the original blue finish remains primarily on the barrel and in the protected areas with the balance mostly a silver gray patina. There is some light spotting and several small nicks including a tight group on the right side of the action towards the rear. The wood is good with light scrapes and some small hairline cracks and chips at the junction with the rear of the frame. The action is fine and the markings are crisp.
