The underside of the barrel under the forearm is marked with a number "1." Note that No. 52 rifles are commonly found with a No. 3 or No. 4 weight barrel making the No. 1 barrel, like the one on this example, rare. The barrel is numbered to the gun. The 44 1/2 model receiver has the standard American style scroll and border engraving patterns. It is equipped with a full loop type lever. Equipped with globe front sight and short range tang peep sight and without provisions for a rear sight. The multi-point checkered forearm is numbered to the gun. The pistol grip stock has checkering in the grip area, a cheekpiece and a casehardened Swiss type buttplate. The forearm and buttstock are highly figured walnut. The rifle is equipped with double set triggers.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The barrel retains 95% plus original blue finish showing some loss at the muzzle. The remaining metal surfaces retain 90% plus vivid original case colors. The wood is also excellent showing some minor pressure dents and scratches with overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
