"ALLEN'S PATENT" marked on hammer "ALLEN $ THURBER WORCESTER" and "PATENTED 1837 CAST STEEL" on two barrel cluster flutes. Matching numbers on frame, hammer spring, trigger guard and both grips. Floral scroll engraved frame and percussion nipple shield with a line and dot motif on the back strap.
Very good. The barrel cluster retains streaks of original blue finish in the flutes with the balance a smooth brown patina. The frame has a bright gray patina. There is some mild pitting (most on the shield). The grips are fine with a few minor handling marks. Action needs work as the hammer does not cock.
Top of hammer marked "ALLEN PATENT" with script "J. Eaton" on the left side of hammer. 1837 patent date and "CAST STEEL" marked on a barrel cluster rib. Floral scroll engraved frame with dot and line engraving on back strap. Matching numbers on frame, hammer spring and trigger guard.
Good. The pepperbox has a mottled brown-gray patina. The grips are also good with a series of mild dings on the bottom and a few minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
