Introduced late in WWII, the "Kriegsmodell" (War Model) 98k was designed for easier and faster production, increasing the number of stamped components while eliminating some features. Fitted with a hooded blade front and tangent rear sight, with a small shield stamp on the breech and "Mod.98/bnz45" on the receiver ring. Fitted with a stamped "byf" trigger guard and floor plate, and a pair of screw-secured stamped and welded barrel bands. Crude cast safety assembly on rear of bolt. Smooth pistol grip stock with a laminated hand guard, "eagle/swastika/H" Heer stamp on the right buttstock and a cupped steel buttplate.
Excellent with 95% plus of the original gray phosphate finish, showing areas of spotting and mild handling marks. Some pitting is present on the bolt, heaviest around the safety. The stock is also excellent with some sanding marks, dings and dents. Safety is a bit stiff, otherwise mechanically excellent.
