This is an example of a very scarce DWM Model 1906 French contract commercial Luger. It is reported that less than a handful were ever produced expressly for a small French firm in 1906 and all were numbered in a commercial serial number block of Model 1906's. The 1906 Models are easily identified as they have the flat toggles with the checkered sides, no stock lug, grip safety and the slightly longer fast taper barrel. It has the typical blank chamber area with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The top of the barrel has the unique French retailers markings of "Manufacture Francaise d' Armes & Cycles de Saint-Etienne". The left side of the barrel extension, underside of the barrel and both the left side of the breechblock and front toggle are stamped with the standard "Crown/N" commercial proof. It is correctly numbered in the commercial manner with the full serial number on the underside of the barrel and frame with the last two digits on some of the smaller parts. It has the first pattern safety with the polished area under the safety lever and the extractor is marked "GELADEN". It has checkered walnut grips, both are numbered "21" on the back sides, and it comes with one nickel plated magazine with a unmarked wooden base. It comes with an original clip on front sight/muzzle cover.

Very fine with 80% plus of the faded original blue finish still remaining overall with thinning and wear on all the edges and high spots with cold blue touch up on the side plate, muzzle and thinning on the front grip strap. The smaller parts retain 40% of their straw colors overall. The grips are in very fine condition with nice distinct checkering overall showing light wear across the tops of the checkering mixed with a couple minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
