This is an example of a U.S. Army contract Remington riot shotgun as manufactured circa 1947. During WWII Remington Arms supplied almost 8000 Model 31 shotguns for both aerial training and guard duty. This is an example of a short barreled riot or guard duty shotgun. The top of the barrel is roll stamped with the two line Remington Arms address and patent dates, with the left side marked "12 GA. For 2 3/4 inch shells or shorter" and farther towards the receiver it has been restamped "CYL", as it was probably originally unmarked from the factory. The lower left side of the barrel is stamped with the serial number "86080" and the top of the barrel is roll stamped with "U.S. PROPERTY". Directly in front of the receiver is the date code of "KSS", (5/47). The left side of the receiver is roll stamped with "Remington/ Model 31/86080/U.S.PROPERTY". It has matching serial numbers on the receiver and barrel. It has a brass bead front sight and a raised solid matte rib on top of the receiver (only). It is fitted with a standard pistol grip, walnut stock and pump handle with 30 grooves. There are no military cartouches of proofs on the stock. It is fitted with a brown plastic Remington Arms serrated buttplate.

Very fine as restamped (see above) with 90% plus of the original Remington blued finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with some blue loss on the magazine tube and pump handle slide. The pump handle is in very fine condition showing no visible wear or handling marks and the recoiled buttstock is very good with a nice medium brown color overall showing finish loss on the middle center section of the right side of the buttstock with light pressure dents and dings on the lower sides and tow area.
