This is a very fine example of a rare and seldom encountered late production Mauser Model 1896 Cone Hammer semi-automatic pistol that is complete with an original matching combination walnut shoulder stock/holster. This model became the final frame configuration for the standard 1896 pattern throughout production. This beautiful pistol has the early long extractor, milled panel frame with the raised rear panel on the left side, with the dovetailed firing pin retainer, early wide trigger, and non-reinforced chamber area. The right side of the barrel extension has the early Mauser antler firing proof and the left side has the "double crown/U" proofs. The chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N". It has the military style adjustable rear sight marked 50-500 meters with the fixed front sight. It has the standard late pattern 23-groove walnut grips, both correctly numbered on the back sides. This pistol is complete with the lanyard ring stud and ring on the butt and its original matching combination wooden shoulder stock/holster.
Excellent with 95% plus of its original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with minor finish loss on the front edges of the frame rails and lower rear grip strap. The grips are in near excellent condition with nice matching color on both sides and 75% of the varnish remaining overall with some minor handling marks. The wooden stock is also in very fine condition with a nice original color overall, with 90% of the original blue finish on the attaching iron with the original matching serial number on top of the iron. The sides of the stock show numerous light scratches with a couple of handling marks. A very nice looking early Mauser 1896 Cone hammer pistol with a matching stock.
