Adopted in October of 1940, the "Feldmuetze neuer Art fuer Mannschaften" was patterned after the Luftwaffe's "boat style" field cap, with "field gray" cloth being the standard for everyone but panzer crews and provision for a soutache (triangular stripe of waffenfarbe piping) up until September of 1942. Two woven black and silver patches are present on the front, with a "SS eagle" above and a "totenkopf skull" below. The interior is lined with brown herringbone twill fabric, with a faint Clemens Wagner maker's mark and size marking (possibly "60"). Established in 1898, Clemens Wagner was one of the largest military hat firms in Nazi Germany.
Excellent, totally original overall with some minor stains on the patches and light handling marks overall. A few brown stains are present inside the crown, with a black ink streak applied to the right side likely to cover up an old name marking.
