Description:

A campaign shield original to a uniform is extremely rare. Most shields in existence are loose and removed from uniforms as a souvenir or ones that were never issued. This lot consists of three parts, a field cap, tunic, and trousers. 1) The cap is the officers pattern, with silver piping around the upper edges, a silver and green national eagle patch and a red/silver/black bullion cockade on the front. The interior is unmarked with a thin front sweatband and a gray rayon liner. 2) The trousers are in the "riding breeches" style, with no visible makers marks and boot zippers up the side of each leg. 3) The tunic has the tag of H. Miltenberger of Dresden just under the collar, with collar tabs and shoulder boards for an Oberleutnant in the infantry, ribbons for the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Eastern Front Medal tucked into the second buttonhole, the Crimea "Krim" Shield on the upper left arm, and the left breast decorated with (in clockwise order) the SA Sports Badge, the General Assault Badge and the Wound Badge. Inside, a suspension strap for a Heer officer dagger is mounted just below the left sleeve, with an internal pocket on the same side bearing another Miltenberger tag designating their client as "Leut. Robert Schmidt". Schmidt has not been identified at this time. Provenance: Robert Kondor.

Rating Definition:

All original overall. 1) The cap is fine, with some staining along the lower front edges and on the liner and some mild wear on the trim and patches. The cockade has been dented on the lower half, with some loose wire. 2) The trousers are fine, with some light stains and wear. 3) Fine, with mild stains and wear overall. The suspension strap is missing the jaw spring.
