Description:

The Savage Model 1895/1899 was the first hammerless lever action rifle series manufactured and is one of the earliest lever actions capable of handling Spitzer bullets thanks to its integral box magazine. Savage introduced the .250-3000 in 1915. This powerful small to medium game cartridge later became the .22-250 still popular with varmint hunters. This Model 1899 was manufactured in 1917 and is equipped with a pinned blade front sight with white bead, an adjustable sporting rear sight, and an additional adjustable folding Lyman peep sight mounted on the receiver. The wood is the checkered Schnabel forend and pistol grip stock with perch belly profile and serrated shotgun buttplate standard to the .250-3000 rifles. The barrel is marked with the two-line address and patent marking ending in "JUNE 1 1909" ahead of the rear sight on top, "SAVAGE HI-PRESSURE STEEL/--<MODEL 1899>--" to the left of the rear sight, and "250-3000 SAVAGE" on the left at the breech. The serial numbers all match.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 97% plus of the original blue finish remains. There is only some occasional light scratches and marks from handling and storage, some small patches of minor pitting on the lower edge of the frame, and some slight fading at the edges. The lever retains 80% of the original case colors; they are particularly vibrant in the protected areas. The buttplate is a has gray patina and a few small spots of light oxidation. The exceptionally fine wood has crisp checkering, some small dings and pressure marks, and slight scratches. This is an exceptional Model 1899 chambered for the desirable .250-3000 Savage cartridge.
