A) Fine Slotter & Company "J. Deringer"

Manufacturer: Slotter & Co
Model: Percussion Pocket Pistol
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 45
Barrel: 2 1/4 inch flat top
Finish: brown/casehardened
Grip: walnut
Stock:
Item Views: 1310
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 113
Class: Antique
Description:

Manufactured by the Schlotterbeck Brothers. Brass blade front and notch rear sights, J. Deringer address on the breech and lock, and "WART/STEEL" on the upper right barrel side. The striped gray and brown finish on the barrel in emulation of Deringer's "bronzing" process is rarely seen on imitators and, in this case, is expertly applied. Scrollwork and zig-zag borders on several components, floral blossom pattern on the escutcheons, and burst patterns on the bolster. The guard and shield have an unengraved stripe running from upper right to lower left, and the former is marked "14" below the rear screw, which is repeated on the inside surface of the hammer. Fancy checkered bird's head stock with smooth triangular tip insert running nearly to the finial.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with over 80% of the brown finish. The striping on the barrel is notably strong, with a deep, near black color on the lock and hammer. The German silver components show mild wear and handling, with a few spots of darker patina on the rear of the trigger guard. The wood is very good, with a few mild dings and a replaced wedge. Mechanically excellent.

B) Gold Banded Andrew Wurfflein Philadelphia Pocket Derringer

Manufacturer: Wurfflein Andrew & William
Model: Pocket
Type: Pistol
Gauge: 45
Barrel: 2 3/4 inch flat top
Finish: brown/casehardened

Item Views: 1310
Serial Number:
Catalog Page: 113
Class: Antique
Description:

Andrew Wurfflein operated in and around Philadelphia from 1845-1871. Dovetailed German silver blade front and notch rear sights, "A. WURFFLEIN/PHILa" on the top flat, "STEEL" on the upper right, and gold bands at the breech. Scroll engraving on several components, burst pattern on the reverse plate screw, pineapple finial, and checkered bird's head grip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The barrel shows 80% original brown finish, with traces of factory simulated "bronzed" streaking, and the case colored parts have turned a dark gray with some traces of the original pattern. The stock is fine, with a crack on the lower right side between the bolster and trigger guard and some mild scratches and dents. Mechanically excellent.
