This is an example of a Second Model 1876 carbine that was manufactured in 1888 and features the dust cover guide rail attached to the top of the receiver by two screws. The dust cover has the serrated finger guide along the rear edge. Fitted with a fixed blade front sight, folding rear carbine sight and a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver. The top of the barrel is marked with the two-line Winchester/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "CAL/45-60" at the breech. The upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1876." and the serial number appears on the lower tang behind the lever. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "45-60." Mounted with a full walnut forearm with steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel carbine buttplate.
Fair. The carbine has a dark mottled patina with a series of scratches on the left side of the receiver and some minor pitting (mostly on the receiver). The wood is also fair with a few hairline cracks, a deep carving on the underside of the buttstock and some minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
