Description:

This revolver has nearly full coverage engraving with gold damascene throughout and dark blue background. Among the engraving patterns are animal heads, floral designs, and geometric patterns. The revolver itself was clearly based on the Smith & Wesson .32 hand ejector. It even has a "MARCA/REGISTRADA" marking on the left side of the action around a "OH" monogram styled after the S&W marking. However, the barrel is proudly marked with "ORBEA HERMANOS/EIBAR" in gold inlay leaving no doubt who the makers were. Their shop first opened in 1840, copied many Smith & Wesson models into the first part of the 20th century, and remains active today as manufacturers of bicycles. The revolver has three Spanish proofmarks on the left side of the frame at the breech, a tall blade front sight, frame groove rear sight, serial number on the butt, and mother of pearl grips with "OH" monogram medallions.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. 97% plus of the original gold damascene and blue finish remains. The main loss is on the hammer and trigger which now have mostly a polished appearance. There are some patches of slight spotting. The grips are very fine and have some slight staining along the junction with the back strap and a very slight hairline crack above the medallion on the left. The action functions, but the cylinder is out of time and does not lock up. This is a very ornate gun that would have been suitable for an exhibition or as a presentation piece.
