The accompanying factory letter confirms the rifle configuration, .38 caliber, 30 inch barrel, set trigger and rifle stock. The rifle was received in the warehouse on November 13, 1882 and shipped on November 14, 1882, work order 825. The special order barrel is fitted with a blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight with the top flat stamped with the two line address/patent date marking ahead of the rear sight and "38-CAL" stamped at the breech. The set trigger is a special order feature. The brass cartridge elevator is marked "38 CAL." The upper tang has the model marking and the lower tang has the serial number. The receiver has the Third Model guide rail and dust cover. Mounted with a smooth forearm and buttstock with crescent buttplate featuring a compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Good as period refurbished. The rifle retains 30% thin period applied blue finish with a mottled brown-gray patina on the balance. The reoiled wood is also good with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically fine.
