Description:

2,500 Warner carbines were manufactured with some variations through a contract by Greene Rifle Works and delivered to the U.S. government in February and March of 1865. After the Civil War, the Warner carbines (which had not garnered favorable reviews from the men they were issued to) were sold as surplus to Schuyler, Hartley & Graham who resold them to France in 1870. This example appears to have been slightly modified for use as a sporting arm after the war, probably by an English dealer. This example has a nickel-plated brass frame, English proofmarks at the breech, other standard markings, blued barrel with blade front sight and notch and folding leaf rear sights, a checkered forearm, no barrel band, matching serial numbers, and a checkered straight wrist buttstock with nickel-plated brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good as period refinished. The barrel display primarily dark brown patina. 75% of the period nickel plating remains, and the exposed brass displays aged patina. The wood is fair with a slivers absent along the sides of the forearm, partially smoothed checkering, and various minor marks and scratches from use, handling, and storage.
