Description:

Manufactured in 1879. This First Model 1873 Winchester Rifle features the distinctive dust cover held in place by grooved guides on either side of the top of the receiver and checkered oval finger grip on top of the dust cover. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/Kings Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight, the upper tang is marked "MODEL. 1873," and the serial number is marked on the lower tang. The rifle is correctly absent of caliber markings. The brass cartridge elevator has an engraved monogram. Fitted with a German blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight. Mounted with a smooth forearm with steel forend cap and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate with compartment (cleaning rod not included).

Rating Definition:

Good. The rifle has a mottled gray patina with areas of original blue finish on the receiver and traces of original blue finish in the protected areas of the barrel and magazine. There is barrel vise marks visible on the breech end of barrel. The refinished wood is also good with some minor handling/storage marks and a couple gouges. Buttplate has a replacement brass screw. Mechanically fine.
