Scarce and Documented Union Fire Arms Reifgraber Patent Semi-Automatic Pistol, Serial Number 38, with Matching Magazine and Extra Magazine

Manufactured in limited numbers by the Union Fire Arms Company, the Reifgraber was originally developed based on patents held by Joseph Joachim Reifgraber, a late 19th/early 20th century publisher who also invented a number of items, including advanced teletype machines. Fixed sights, with "UNION FIREARMS CO./TOLEDO. O. RIEFGRABER(sic) PAT." on the left side of the frame and "S. & W./32/CAL." on the right. Fitted with a back strap grip safety, manual safety, takedown lever and a pair of checkered grips. Two magazines are included, one numbered "38", and the other numbered "36". This pistol is pictured on page 288 of "U.S. Military Automatic Pistols 1894-1920" by Edward Scott Meadows, which includes a section discussing Reifgraber's attempts to attract military attention to the pistol.

ConditionVery fine, with 80% of the blue finish, showing wear along the high edges and a number of scratches. Mixed assembly numbers are present on some parts. Mechanically needs adjustment. Grips are very good, with some scuffs and dings.
