The "ALLEN & THURBER" and "WORCESTER" markings in one of the barrel group fluted indicates this pepperbox was manufactured between 1847 and 1854. The hammer is marked "ALLEN'S PATENT/1845" on the left side. The frame and nipple shield have factory scrollwork engraving. The matching three-digit serial number is marked on the barrel group at the breech, bottom of the hammer, inside of the trigger guard and nipple shield, underside of the grips and side plate, and the left side of the trigger, small action components, mainspring, and grip frame. The hardwood case has a brown felt lined interior fitted to the gun and the included "S.S.B." marked bullet mold, Eley Bros. cap tin, bag shaped powder flask, and wooden handled ramrod.
