The included Buffalo Bill Historical Center letter dated August 24, 1976 states that the Winchester factory records confirm the rifle configuration, caliber, half octagon barrel, half length magazine and plain trigger. The rifle was shipped from the warehouse on October 15, 1898. The rifle has a blade front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight, Lyman tang peep sight and special order half length magazine. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and "30 WCF" at the breech. The upper left barrel flat has the two-line nickel steel barrel marking under the rear sight. Mounted with a nicely figured forearm and straight grip stock fitted with a crescent buttplate.

Excellent. The rifle retains over 90% plus original blue finish showing some thinning to a gray. 80% of the original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The hammer and lever retain 85% original case colors and traces of faded original case colors remain on the buttplate. The wood is excellent with some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
