Description:

Mitrailleuse, French for "grapeshot," pistols were manufactured by Manufacture Francaise d’Armes de Saint-Etienne in the 1890s before being renamed "Le Gaulois" in 1897. The renamed model was manufactured until the second decade of the 20th century. This example is marked "MITRAILEUSE" on the top of the barrel; "SURETE" (safe), "FEU" (fire), and "DECHARGEMENT/ET/DEMONTAGE" (unload and removal) on the left side of the action; and MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE/D'ARMES DE ST ETIENNE" on the side plate. Matching serial numbers are also found on the major components. It has a simple brass post front sight, serrated dust cover, and a smooth plunger pad/grip.

Rating Definition:

Fine. 80% of the frosted original nickel plating remains. There is some flaking, light pitting, and minor oxidation on the balance. The pad is excellent and has only minor handling and storage wear. The action functions fine, and the markings are crisp.
