This is a nice example of a No. 6 1/2 Marlin/Ballard Single Shot Rifle. The left side of the receiver is marked "MARLIN FIRE ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CT. U.S.A. / BALLARD'S. PATENT. NOV. 5, 1861." The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame and on the bottom barrel flat under the forearm (also matching number). The part round octagon/barrel is equipped with an adjustable front globe sight and marked "32-40" at the breech. The receiver is equipped with a Vernier mid-range peep sight. The barrel is blue. The receiver and lever are casehardened. The rifle is mounted with a checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and nickel plated Swiss style buttplate. The right side of the stock has an affixed plaque which reads "PRESENTED BY/THE PABST BREWING CO./TO THE/WALLACE GUN CLUB/AND WON BY HORACE KING/SCORE 55555".
