Gold-Inlaid Ormolu-Mounted Sporting or Target Wheel Lock Rifle by Marcus Zellner, Vienna, circa 1750

swamped octagonal rifled barrel with gold-inlaid maker’s name "MARCUS ZELLNER IN WIENN" just ahead of a large gold-inlaid arabesque panel, the breech tang scroll engraved, finely filed single-standing rear-sight with single folding leaf, simple dove-tailed fore-sight surrounded by gold-inlaid scrolls, flat lock-plate entirely decorated with engraved scrolls surrounding the inscribed maker’s name "Marcus Zellner/in Wienn", cock jaws decorated with shell-form scroll-work, walnut full-stock, inlaid overall with silver-wire forming scrolls between large panels of high-relief carved foliated scrolls and numerous inset scroll decorated ormolu plates, ormolu trigger-guard, ram-rod pipes and fore-end tip. ConditionFair, barrel with blue-brown patina, the lock-plate with old cleaned surface, now a medium grey patina, lacking to barrel pins, the edge of barrel channel with losses on each side, stock is broken through wrist through it shows mostly on the inside, the crack remains visible near trigger-guard, butt-plate lacking one screw, expected wear to gilding on brass mountings, one ormolu plate lacking screw, hair-trigger broken
