The Beaumont-Adams was an improvement on the Adams Model 1851 primarily differing in the ability to fire in both single action and double action rather than double action only. The hammer thus also has a spur. This revolver is marked "MANUFD BY A FRANCOTTE LICENSED BY ADAMS & CO. LONDON" in a banner across the top and has "ADAMS/1851/PATENT" on left side of the frame, "14862" on the front of the frame, an "AF" on the loading lever, "ADAMS PATENT" in fancy script and a "crown/AF" stamp on the right side of the frame, and Liege proofmarks on the cylinder. There is extensive floral scroll engraving on over 90% of the metal surfaces. The grip has relief carved floral scrollwork and is fitted with a buttcap with a coat of arms consisting of a knight's helmet over a party per pale shield with a Frisian eagle on the left and stripes on the right. The nicely figured case has the same coat of arms minus the helmet at the center of the lid and has an English fitted interior with a Francotte label and the following accessories: engraved silver cap tin and oiler, ebony bore rod with engraved silver fittings, ebony handled nipple wrench and screwdriver with engraved fittings, marbled powder flask, patch cutter, and dual cavity bullet mold. One of the compartments contains a few lead bullets. The Frisian eagle in the coat of arms suggests the revolver was owned by a Dutchman. The Adams & Co. marking indicates the revolver was manufactured after 1859 when Adams left the London Armoury Co. because they decreased production of his revolvers in favor of more infantry rifles. Auguste Francotte was among the most prolific, oldest, and well regarded Belgian gunmakers. Francotte was licensed by Adams to produce his designs and manufactured the Beaumont-Adams model for the Netherlands' naval forces.
