Unusual Engraved Beringer Single Shot "Rotating" Breech Loading Pistol with Underlever

This mid-19th century pistol is marked "BERINGER BREVETE A PARIS" on the top of the Damascus barrel and has attractive floral engraving on the other metal surfaces. Fine blade and notch sights are fitted to the front of the barrel and just behind the breech. The breech mechanism rotates by pull the lever on the underside to the right. A percussion cap is loaded from the left side, and the powder and bullet are loaded from the right. The hammer is simply a cocking piece, and the firing pin is contained within the action. The burl walnut grip is fluted.

ConditionFine overall. The barrel is light brown with distinct Damascus patterns and partially faded markings. The remaining metal surfaces have gray patina and crisp engraving. The otherwise fine wood grip has some cracking near the hammer, attractive burl figure, a slight period repair on the bottom right, some slight gaps at the junction with the action, and a few minute chips. The forend is fine. The action functions fine.
