Iron Mounted Flintlock American Long Rifle

The barrel has faint traces of a signature. Only the star design often placed between the given name and surname is clear. It was previously attributed to Abraham Honaker of Pulaski, Virginia, and is equipped with a "RODGERS &/BROTHERS/PHILADELPHIA" marked lock with minor designs near the tail and "WARRANTED" stamped on the inside. John Rogers purchased Valley Forge in 1814 and worked with Brooke Evans to turn it into a functioning gun factory and manufactured contract muskets in the 1820s. His brothers Evan and Charles also worked with him, and the trio are known to have manufactured and sold gunlocks and other hardware from 1805 until 1846. The muzzle is stamped "410" above the bore and "L" below. It has a blade front sight, slot for a mid-sight on the barrel, and a integral peep sight base on the barrel tang. The curly maple stock has some minor carving on the forend but is mostly plain. The rifle was previously in the Wallace Gussler collection and has "GUSLER 7" written on a Whiteout patch inside the trigger guard.

ConditionGood as reconverted to flintlock configuration. There is dark brown patina throughout and some bright oxidation at the breech. The rear sights and two wedges are absent. The barrel was slightly buffed at the signature location in the past in an attempt to reveal the marking. The stock is fine and has a 4 inch piece of the edge of the forend on the right side absent, cracks at the front wedge, additional small chips and slivers absent from the inlet edges, oil, and evidence of some fresh work under the lock. The lock and set triggers need work in order to function correctly. The cock does not currently release properly. The lock and muzzle markings are crisp.
