This is a Mauser Model 1896 Cone Hammer semi-automatic pistol that has the desirable Westley-Richards marked frame that is complete with the original matching shoulder stock/holster. This model basically became the final frame configuration for the standard 1896 pattern throughout production. These have been collector named a cone hammer due to the shape of the sides of the hammer. This pistol has an adjustable rear sight graduated 50-500 meters, the early long extractor, deep milled frame panels frame with the raised rear panel on the left side. It also has the early dovetailed firing pin retained, early wide trigger, and non-reinforced chamber area. The top of the chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N", with the right side stamped with the early Mauser Antlered firing proof with a "double crown/U" proof on the right side. The right center frame panel is engraved: "Westley Richards & Co Ltd/London W.". It has the standard inverted "v" front sight and the standard 23-groove walnut grips. This pistol is complete with the lanyard ring stud and ring on the butt and its original matching combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. Interestingly the right side of the stock has been modified by the addition of a leather belt loop. This loop has been secured by three wood screws and a brass plate at the top and two screws on the lower buckle portion.

Very fine with 85% plus of the original blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with the majority of the blue loss on the grip straps, front edges of the frame rails and lower front edges of the magazine housing. The grips are in fine condition with distinct grooves on both sides with some varnish loss overall with handling marks at the top and bottom edges. The stock is in very good condition with a nice medium color overall, with handling marks on both sides, with the noted modification on the right. The attaching iron retains traces of its blue finish mostly in the protected areas. Provenance: Robert M. Lee Collection.
