Exceptional DWM Model 1923 Commercial Safe and Loaded "Stoeger American Eagle" Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol with DWM/Stoeger Marked Box and Accessories

This is a beautiful example of a DWM Model 1923 "American Eagle" Commercial Luger with the very desirable "A.F. Stoeger" markings. Unlike many early Weimar-era Commercial Lugers to hit the American market which were made from left-over military components or entirely refurbished military surplus handguns, the 1923 Stoeger was made factory fresh by DWM (and later Mauser) specifically for the A.F. Stoeger Arms Company in New York, a noted early importer of European firearms in the 1900s. Although it is estimated that over 1,000 of this model were manufactured, in reality, they are very scarce and difficult to find today, especially in this original, high-end condition. Fixed sights, with a series of "crown/N" proofs on the barrel and extension, "DWM" marked front toggle link, and "GERMANY" frame, with an additional "GERMANY" mark on the right side of the extension ahead of the "A.F. STOEGER INC/NEW YORK" address. The extractor and upper safety position have the American-style "LOADED" and "SAFE" markings. It also has matching external numbers, straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and springs, checkered grips and a nickel-finished magazine with an unnumbered wood base marked "GERMANY". Included with the pistol is a scarce original red box marked on the lid "DEUTSCHE WAFFEN - UND MUNITIONSFABRIKEN/BERLIN/Parabellum - Pistole Cal. 7,65 m/m" and "A.F. Stoeger, New York/Sole Importer U.S.A." with an extra magazine (configured the same as the first), unmarked loading/takedown tool, pin punch, a box of Winchester Non-Mercuric Staynless(sic) ammunition (93 grain hollow-point, 49 out of 50 rounds present) and an English-language manual marked for the Parabellum Pistol and ink-stamped "LUGER" above the cover illustration.

ConditionExcellent, with 98% plus original blue finish, showing a few light handling marks overall. The grips are very fine, with a thin chip lost from the left panel near the safety and some mild dents. 75% of the original straw finish is present on the small parts, with a bright appearance on the high points and on the face of the trigger, and the niter blue colors are bright and vivid in the protected areas. The box is very good, with some scuffs and tears along the edges, a small tape repair on the front of the lid, and wear on the interior consistent with mild shifting of the pistol while in storage. The ammunition box is very good, with some mild wear. Mechanically excellent. This top-quality 1923 Stoeger Luger is likely one of the best to be found on the market, combined with the vintage DWM/Stoeger box which is difficult to find in any condition.
