Designed in 1911, the Type 44 combines an Arisaka pattern receiver with a short barrel and an integrated spike bayonet. Blade front and short staff rear sights with a lightly ground (still very legible) mum on the receiver over the "4/4/Type" model markings, and the Nagoya Arsenal stamp, serial number and 2nd series stamp are on the left side. Equipped with a 13 1/2 inch triangular spike bayonet on a 2-screw base with the base and bolt handle numbered to match the receiver and a non-matching dust cover. Smooth pistol grip stock with a brown leather sling, flat buttplate and small cleaning equipment slot.
